Domain vs Hosting

What is a domain?
Since there are a lot of computers a little all over the world, there is a need for those to be identified in a practical and simple way.

This identification, which started to be done through an extensive sequence of numbers difficult to memorize, became possible with the creation of the domains.

A domain, represented by a name, serves to easily identify sets of computers that are connected to the Internet. A domain can belong to a person or a company/institution.

Example: inoveonline.com

Where: inoveoline-> domain name // .com -> geographical area or activity (extension)
What is hosting?
Hosting is the process of storing content on a server. That means that each site has a server were all the content is stored. This server allows now only the hosting, but also the sharing of content of the site with the computers that want to acess it. This access is done through the HTTP or HTTPS protocol.
What do the domain extensions mean?
A domain’s extensions are it’s second part. That means that in inoveoline.com, inove oline is the domain name and .com is it’s extension.

There are many types of extensions that are meant to identify a certain geographic area or activity.

Examples of international extensions:
.com
.org
.net

Examples of national extensions:
.pt (Portugal)
.br (Brazil)
.es (Spain)

Example from an institution:
.art.pt (arts in Portugal)
.gov.pt (government in Portugal)
The registry of a domain has hosting included?
The registry of a domain does not include hosting. If you need space for email or website, you'll need a hosting account.
What is a domain with a .PT extension?
.pt is a domain where it’s geographical extension is portuguese. It’s used when you know that the target audience is Portuguese. .pt means Portugal, just like .br means Brazil, .es means Spain, and so forth..pt
What is a domain with a .COM extension?
.com is a extension of international domain, created in 1985 as an answer to the need to organizing the incrising electronic communications all over the world.

Initially it was created with a comercial end in mind, but it quickly became a bridge between companies, institutions, and people around the globe. It has a crucial role in all human activities associated wit the internet and covers over hundreds of bilions of entities

It has an average of 135 trilions of daily queuries. This number demonstrates the immensity of this extension domain and it’s important role to keep the digital world running, allowing it to be always connected between itself in a safe and reliable way.
Why buy domains with different extensions?
When you create a domain, it can have a international target audience (using for example the extension .com), or a audience geographically located in just one country (for example, .pt). But there can also be a need of internationalization at the same time you try to maintain a local and customized personality for one or more countries.

That means you can have a domain extension .com for the international general market, and at the same time have a .pt for the Portuguese market. That way, you’ll have a same domain but with different extensions that redirect to the same site, only with a specific extension. The root of the domain will always stay the same.

SSL Certificate

My site appears as “not safe”. Now what?
We recommend you to acquire a Certificate so that the warning can be removed.
The Certificates are usually used in online shops, but can also be used in whatever site that trades with sensitive information.
SSL advantages
The use of the Digital Certificate can positively impact several aspects of a website. The improvements can range from SEO (Search Engine Operation) to the development of a safer and stronger site. Among other advantages of this technology, we can highlight:

  • Performance gain: modern SSL protocols can increase a page’s loading speed, making the browsing experience more pleasant.
  • More security: Encrypting a site’s traffic by using a SSL will ensure that no one will be able to steal the information hared between the visitor and the web page.
  • Ranking improvement: search mechanisms such as Google and Bing give preference to sites with a HTTPS protocol.
  • More trustworthy: pages with SSL increase the trust of users that, in recent years, started being more concerned about their digital security.
